JUMPING JEHOSPHAT

Today we celebrated with the KakamegaTown Church. Whenever we bring a team to Kenya, we end up here and it is one of the most memorable things we do in Kenya. Worship a la Kenya! It’s crowded, it’s loud and it’s joyful! There is dancing, there are conga lines, there are horns blowing and loud whistles, and there are lots of special numbers and a 4 hour service. Definitely not the place to be if you are used to orderly and serene worship. To date I have not found a single person who has not found it exhilarating and liberating. When the Kings High School students were with us last May, they shook the building with their raucus celebration. The entire congregation and the Worldcomp team send their appreciation and gratitude for your prayers and generous support.

As I mentioned the other day, they are in the middle of a massive building project and doing all they can to raise $250,000 to build a new church building. Kakamega is a very poor region of Kenya so it’s always a struggle for them to raise money. I was able to make a donation of $7000 to their building fund, but I haven’t sent it yet. When the announcement was made the whole crowd erupted on tearful celebration. The particular group, whose turn is to give this month is mostly women and widows and they have really given themselves to prayer that God will provide. If you have given it some thought and would like your add your 10 cents, even 10 cents will help, keep in mind that $100 is a month’s wages to these wonderful people. You can give online at www.worldcompkenya.com/give or in the mail at Worldcomp Kenya, 7758 Earl Ave NW, Seattle, WA 98117.

We are now wrapping things up here. The dedication of the Home of Grace yesterday was a historic day for Worldcomp. Our biggest project ever and it will also be the heaviest responsibility we’ve ever undertaken. To house and care for 120 kids will take a special grace from God. Pray for us as we now begin the vetting process with children and select the right employee’s for the Center. I told the whole crowd yesterday that I didn’t want to see a single employee that didn’t have a heart of love and gentleness with kids. Those of you who asked for a sponsorship packet to sponsor one of our kids will be getting something in the mail within the next few weeks.

Our evening ended with a birthday party for Ben Barasa, the son of Simon and Grace. Ben is a remarkable young man. Totally committed to the Lord, he plays the guitar, the drums and the base and he is a superb soccer player. He is now 18, and he has never had a birthday party in his life. Up until a few years ago birthday parties were something that very few families did. One great thing that happened was; his parents went to the store to buy him his first ever cake. He actually gave his mother $10 dollars from his own pocket for the cake. When they got to the cake department they ran into our Worldcomp Team of 5 men, who were in the act of buying him 2 cakes. How’s that for a blessing!

Tomorrow we travel back to Nairobi with a brief stop at the Solid Rock Widows Center. This marvelous facility is the gathering place of over 500 widows. These widows have banded together to start businesses, group savings programs and microfinancing. They told us that they finally figured out that no one in Kenya was going to help them so by the Grace of God they decided to help one another. Worldcomp has counted it a privilege to support these lovely women and to help them to help themselves.

Blessing to you and yours.

Thank for taking the time to travel with us through these blogs.

Love in Jesus
