Throughout each year Worldcomp Kenya’s Medical Teams hold a number of medical camps in the nation of Kenya. We serve people in areas where there are no medical services and where people can neither afford doctors or medicine. Our average medical camp will serve 400 to 500 people in a day.
However, in the month of August we host very large medical camps that serve 1000 to 1500 people a day. This year we plan to serve over 7000 people between August 12th through 26th. 60% of those we serve will be children under the age of 14. These mega-medical camps will bring together medical professionals from churches, government agencies, local clinics and from other countries to serve the poor and needy in Kenya. Medical professionals from the Kenya Government have said over and over again that Worldcomp’s medical camps are “the best organized and most effective medical camps in Kenya”.
An average medical camp offers diagnosis, treatment, free medicine and long-term care referrals to people struggling with all sorts of health issues. We also provide dental extractions, immunizations, eye exams and free reading glasses, nutrition and hygiene classes, cervical cancer screening, testing for AIDS, Malaria and Typhoid, and many other services.
A very important part of this is a fully stocked pharmacy that provides FREE medicine to everyone in need. A course of antibiotics that will save the life of a child cost less than $5.00, but in the areas where we work $5.00 is not to be had.
As we prepare for our August Medical Camps this year; money for medicine will be our greatest need. Medical supplies for this year’s camps will cost between $12,000 and $15,000. Which brings me to the purpose of this email.
